Diaoyu Island (Danglang Island)

- (i.e., Danglang Island), is one of the uninhabited islands in Changdao County, Shandong Province. It covers a land area of 0.13 square kilometers, has a coastline of over 1,860 meters, and a highest elevation of 36 meters. To the north, it overlooks the Changshan International Waterway and a series of islands including Gaoshan and Tuojii; to the east, it borders the Pearl Gate Channel and the scenic areas of Jiuzhang Cliff and Crescent Bay; to the west, it faces the Pagoda Gate Channel and the scenic areas of Pagoda Reef and Dragon Claw Mountain; and to the south, it lies adjacent to Miaodao Pond, Menglang Island, and Miaodao Xianying Palace. Climbing onto the island and looking around, you’ll find yourself surrounded by breathtaking scenery, as if every corner is a painting. It is truly a pearl embedded by nature in the Bohai Strait.

The island was developed as a tourist scenic area in 2000. This area encapsulates a variety of natural landscapes found in the strait, combining cliffs, reefs, caves, beaches, and bays unique to Changdao. In spring and early summer, visitors can also observe the unique sight of groups of seals swimming, playing, and resting on the reefs. Not only does it boast stunning natural beauty, but it also teems with abundant aquatic resources, making it an ideal habitat for abalone, sea cucumbers, conches, scallops, crabs, seaweed, and various fish and shrimp. Leveraging these exceptional natural conditions, the scenic area offers a range of distinctive tourism activities. Here, you can catch crabs, collect sea snails, gather seaweed, and pick colorful stones; swim, go boating, have a beachside barbecue, and sample fresh seafood; stay with local fishing families, enjoy entertainment at sea, and join fishermen in their catches; or try various fishing experiences such as platform pole fishing, rowboat edge fishing, pelagic longline fishing, and cage-based fixed-point fishing. In short, here you can fully immerse yourself in the sunshine, sandy beaches, seawater, green mountains, and fresh air; experience the simple and genuine folk customs of fishing communities; and savor the endless joy described by “the drinker’s heart is not in the cup, but in the beauty of the landscape.”

Transportation

You can rent a speedboat or fishing boat at the fishing port on the north side of the Changdao Port embankment, or join a sea tour route to get there.
