Shandong Tanghe National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

Shandong Tanghe National Wetland Park is located in Hedong District, Linyi City, Shandong Province, covering a total area of 495.09 hectares.

Tanghe Wetland Park is located south of Danzhang Street in Tanghe Town, Hedong District, Linyi City, and north of the Shuhe River. With a prime geographical position and very convenient transport, it lies 20 kilometers from downtown Linyi, 3 kilometers from Provincial Highway 342, and 16 kilometers from National Highway 206. The Tanghe River (Tanghe Town section) flows year-round, winding through the landscape with varying currents, offering picturesque scenery. The river features numerous sandbars, green islands, and wetlands that vary in form, where lush grass and egrets thrive, and wild ducks gather. The banks boast expansive shoals rich in vegetation and a healthy ecological environment. Along the way, stretches of fruit trees, flowers, and seedlings flourish in vibrant greens, with blooming blossoms and the fragrance of melons and fruits in the air — it is widely known as the hometown of osier willows, seedlings, flowers, and papayas. It is the second-largest undeveloped contiguous wetland in Shandong Province (excluding the Yellow River Delta), offering ideal conditions for developing eco-tourism and leisure tourism.

Built upon the foundation of Tanghe Town’s beautiful scenery, elegant environment, and pristine natural ecology, and centered around the main body of the Tanghe River, the development highlights eco-leisure themes based on high-quality, authentic agricultural production. By integrating riverside resort stays, eco-entertainment activities, Tanghe River drifting, science education, and industrial sightseeing, Tanghe Town has been developed into a comprehensive eco-tourism demonstration town that combines knowledge and entertainment, offering joy and education through travel. With “wetland eco-entertainment at the Tanghe estuary, natural oxygen bar eco-resorts, and specialty agriculture sightseeing” as its key offerings, it creates an ecotourism destination with unique charm in Linyi City.

In terms of spatial layout, the park centers around the Tanghe Town government seat as the core service area, with the Tanghe Scenic Belt as its axis. From north to south, following the flow of the river, it sequentially arranges five functional zones: the Nursery and Flower Sightseeing Area, Papaya Health Leisure Garden, Eco-Entertainment Area, Willow Weaving Exhibition Garden, and Riverside Resort Camp. The walking routes form a balanced layout of two quiet and three dynamic zones, creating a harmonious mix of tranquility and activity.

Tanghe Wetland Park stretches 1,800 meters in length. During its construction, the original woodland and wetland vegetation were preserved to the greatest extent possible. The park includes a waterside corridor, 1,500 meters of wooden boardwalks along the route, eight pavilions and viewing towers, and one wetland aquatic plant and animal cultural wall. Walking into Tanghe Wetland Ecological Park, the wooden walkways wind through dense reeds and grasses, or run alongside the water. A gentle breeze may reveal wild birds such as white storks, black storks, and ducks soaring above the wetlands. The meandering paths offer a serene atmosphere and fresh air, making it an ideal spot for wild fishing. Further along the boardwalks, the various thatched and ancient wooden pavilions built along the wetland present diverse shapes and arrangements, providing visitors with places to rest and enjoy a vacation, while creating a pleasant environment that brings people closer to nature and allows them to reconnect with it.

Tanghe Wetland Park is divided into five zones: the Wetland Conservation Area, Wetland Utilization Area, Wetland Buffer Zone, Wetland Management Area, and Wetland Exhibition Area.

Wetland Conservation Area: Creates various conditions suitable for bird habitation to attract birds, thereby preserving the integrity of the wetland and its ecosystem, as well as ensuring biodiversity.

Wetland Utilization Area: Utilizes the purification function of the wetland by planning multi-level wetland purification zones to treat urban industrial and domestic sewage, thus maximizing the social and economic benefits of the wetland.

Wetland Buffer Zone: Provides a natural, pristine, spacious, and safe space to reduce disturbances for more species and offer them habitable environments.

Wetland Management Area: Primarily responsible for managing visitors, ensuring biological safety, and monitoring wetland water bodies.

Wetland Exhibition Area: Serves the fundamental purpose of promoting wetland science education and enhancing the park’s educational value, showcasing an environmental science park centered around new artificial wetland systems for sewage treatment.
