Former Site of the Central Conservatory of Music
The former site of the Central Conservatory of Music is a protected cultural heritage site of Tianjin.
The former site of the Central Conservatory of Music is located at No. 57 Shiyijing Road, Hedong District, Tianjin. It is currently the Fourth Teaching Building — the Concert Hall of the Tianjin Conservatory of Music. This location was originally a middle school built by the Japanese during their occupation of Tianjin, called the “Tianjin Yamato Japanese National School.” On June 17, 1950, the Central Conservatory of Music was formally established here, with the renowned violinist Ma Sicong as its first president. It later served as the home of the Central Conservatory of Music and remains well preserved to this day.
This concert hall is ingeniously designed, making full use of acoustic principles without the need for electronic equipment, ensuring excellent sound quality in every corner.
Shortly before the founding of New China, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to establish three major art academies, one of which was the Central Conservatory of Music. Initially, Beijing and Nanjing were both considered as potential locations, but after evaluating various factors, Tianjin was ultimately chosen as the site.
In 1958, the Central Conservatory of Music moved to Beijing. On October 4 of the same year, the Tianjin Conservatory of Music was established on the original site.
