South Heng West Street

Located on the southeastern side of Niujie area, running from east to west, it starts from the southern end of Caishikou Hutong where it connects with South Heng East Street in the east, and extends to the southern end of Niujie where it meets Zaolin Front Street in the west. The western boundary of the South Heng West Street responsibility zone reaches the Islamic Association, with house numbers: 1–101 and 2–92. The area of South Heng West Street was formed by merging the western section of the original South Heng Street and two streets outside the western entrance of the original South Heng Street. It is 904 meters long and 6.5 meters wide on average. In 1965, during the street name reorganization, it was officially named South Heng West Street. The area north of South Heng Street was densely populated, with many shops, workshops, guildhalls, and residences along the street. The area to the south had also developed into lanes, mostly with guildhalls and homes. During the Hundred Days' Reform, Kang Youwei, Liang Qichao, and others held the founding meeting of the Protect the Country Society here; the site is now occupied by South Heng West Street Primary School. No. 15 is the former Jing County New Guildhall, now the branch campus of South Heng West Street Primary School. Additionally, two six-story buildings were constructed on the north and south sides of the coal yard on South Heng West Street, with the northern one built in the early 1980s.
