Zhanhua Ancient City Wall

The Zhanhua Ancient City Wall is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The ruins of the ancient city wall are located in Dongguan Village, Gucheng Town. Initially built in the sixth year of the Mingchang era of the Jin Dynasty (1195), the wall was reinforced and repaired multiple times throughout history. Today, apart from a section of the wall at the East Gate and some remaining ruins at the northeast corner, the ancient city wall has been largely altered beyond recognition. However, the outer moat remains, and some structures, streets, and place names within the city still survive. The remaining part of the East Gate site currently stands 2.3 meters high, with the base measuring 1.8 meters in length and 1.2 meters in width. The wall is made of rammed earth with clearly defined layers, interspersed with ceramic fragments from the Song and Yuan dynasties.

On June 23, 2015, the Zhanhua Ancient City Wall was designated as part of the fifth batch of Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units by the People's Government of Shandong Province.
