Dongcui Community, Chaihedian Town was formed through the merger of five villages: Dongcui, Wangzhuang, Yuzhuang, Weizhuang, and Yuanzhuang. It has 8,100 mu of arable land, of which 6,600 mu are used for vegetable cultivation.

Before the merger, Dongcui Village, along with the other four villages, was a specialized vegetable-producing village. In August 2007, adopting an industry-linked model, the five villages merged to form Dongcui Community, with Dongcui Village designated as the central village. After the merger, the community’s Party Committee expanded the Dongcui Vegetable Wholesale Market, improved infrastructure, enhanced service functions, and facilitated trade for local residents. The expanded market covers an area of over 180 mu, includes a steel-structured trading shed spanning more than 5,000 square meters, and can accommodate over 1,200 vehicles and tricycles, serving up to 5,000 people for trading at the same time. The market handles a daily trading volume of over 700,000 kilograms, with a turnover of 590,000 yuan, and sees around 3,000 traders daily. Customers come from over 20 provinces, cities, and regions including Beijing, Tianjin, and Shandong. It is a designated wholesale market by the Ministry of Agriculture and is hailed as the “Southern Vegetable Garden of Beijing and Tianjin.”

Currently, the pollution-free vegetable base in the eastern part of the county, centered around the Dongcui Market, has expanded to over 100,000 mu, cultivating more than 20 varieties. There are over 5,000 high-standard greenhouses, utilizing advanced techniques such as plastic mulching, water-saving irrigation, and straw bioreactor technology. All farms promote the use of low-toxicity pesticides and organic fertilizers, and the entire base is moving toward producing green and organic products. Here, visitors can safely pick and enjoy the green vegetables from the base.

The Dongcui Vegetable Market is one of the largest vegetable wholesale trading markets and distribution centers in northwestern Shandong. During the peak vegetable harvest season, it becomes an ideal destination for visitors to pick fresh green vegetables.
