In the early days of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the area around Cuiyang Village in Ningjin served as the center of activities for the party, government, and military leadership of the Jilu Border Region. Commander Xiao Hua and Martyr Ma Zhenhua, Secretary of the southern Jilin Prefectural Committee, often lived and operated here. At that time, to support the war effort, Cuiyang Village organized four blacksmith forges to produce broadswords for the Eighth Route Army guerrillas. The villagers of Cuiyang enthusiastically joined the army, and later 17 of them sacrificed their lives for the country.
Glorious history is a valuable asset. With scientific planning and a long-term vision, and out of reverence for and commitment to revolutionary spirit, Cuiyang Village began an in-depth exploration of its local wartime history and embarked on red tourism. The Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall was soon built and officially opened to the public on September 30, 2015. It houses over 500 pieces of cultural relics and photos related to the war, making it the largest memorial hall at the village level in the province. Driven by tourism, the former residences, bridal chambers, and command post sites of the anti-Japanese general Xiao Hua have also been restored and opened to the public one after another.
Green development and eco-tourism align with the trends and meet public expectations. Through continuous exploration, Cuiyang Village has firmly committed to the path of transforming into a beautiful countryside.
A seedling and flower base, picking garden, and fishing park have been established south of the village, while greening efforts have been intensified to improve the environment. The village has also repurposed old factories and warehouses into exhibition halls, studios, workshops, art galleries, restaurants, talent apartments, and other supporting facilities. By planting the phoenix tree, they attracted the phoenix. They traveled across the country to invite painters and artists to sketch, create, and engage in artistic exchanges here, as well as to exchange and collect works by master artists.
The Cuiyang Art Gallery was completed and opened in 2016, covering a construction area of approximately 10,000 square meters. The gallery houses thousands of art pieces including oil paintings, traditional Chinese paintings, calligraphy, and sculptures, making it the largest village-level art gallery in the country. The gallery has established long-term cooperative relationships with renowned art institutions such as the Songzhuang Artists Village in Beijing and the Guozhong Art Gallery.
