Former Site of the Shandong Postal Administration

The Former Site of the Shandong Postal Administration is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Former Site of the Shandong Postal Administration is located on Jinger Road in Jinan's commercial district. It was collectively listed under the "Modern Architectural Complex along Weier Road, Jinan" as part of the seventh batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level. It currently houses the Jinan Post Office and was selected as one of Jinan’s “Ten Most Beautiful Historic Buildings in the City” in 2017. In summer, the dense foliage makes it difficult to see the full structure in photos. The building was designed by a Tianjin-based foreign firm and construction began in 1918. It features a German architectural style and was once the tallest building in Jinan. Originally three stories high, it was reduced to two after a fire in 1922, which also significantly altered the roof. It has now been freshly repainted inside and out, losing much of its original weathered charm. The site has been in continuous use as a post office. After the Japanese invasion of Jinan, it was occupied by Japanese forces and later served as a military facility, used in turn by both the Nationalist and Communist armies until the post office reopened in 1958. On December 7, 2006, the Former Site of the Shandong Postal Administration was designated as part of the third group of Provincial-Level Cultural Relics Protection Units by the People’s Government of Shandong Province.
