Plum Blossom Spring

Plum Blossom Spring is located within the Qingzhao Garden of the Baimai Spring Park in Mingshui, Zhangqiu District. Nestled among pavilions and towers, the spring features five jets of water gushing forth, resembling the petals of a plum blossom—hence its name. The spring pool covers an area of 1,800 square meters, with a normal annual flow rate of 0.5 cubic meters per second. The five jets shoot straight up like blooming petals, with the central blossom’s heart churning, creating ripples and splashes. Standing by the Ganyue Pavilion or beside the Plum Blossom Spring, you can admire the majestic sight of the Yinfeng Pavilion; crossing the shallow bridge, you’ll feel the spring spray mist your clothes with droplets, bringing a refreshing coolness and a gentle breeze that wraps around you—a truly breathtaking scene.

Near the spring lies the Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall, which houses a rich collection of poetry steles by ancient and modern masters. The Laiyu Hall displays exhibits on the life of this talented woman, offering endless fascination. Throughout the entire Qingzhao Garden, every step reveals a wonder, and every courtyard is steeped in culture. The eventful life of Li Qingzhao, the renowned female poet of the Northern Song Dynasty, is fully presented in her former residence, adding profound cultural depth to the Plum Blossom Spring. Historical research confirms that Li Qingzhao, the “foremost master of ci poetry,” was born and grew up here. In the garden, the plaque of the waterside pavilion reads “Dragon Spring Gurgling Jade,” inscribed by the master artist Yin Shoushi. The couplet on either side—“The waters connect three thousand miles southward, the aura overshadows fourteen towns of the river city”—is taken from Li Qingzhao’s seven-character quatrain “Inscription on Bayong Tower.” The pavilions and towers in the garden are all exquisitely crafted, with the Yi’an Tower being the best spot to lean on the railing and admire the spring.
