Weishan Scenic Area

Located in Shengjing, Weishan District, Zhangqiu, at an elevation of 205 meters, ancient Weishan was once covered with dense ancient trees, dotted with temples and stone tablets, earning it the reputation of "Little Mount Tai." In 2002, it gained worldwide fame following the discovery of painted terracotta warriors from the Han Dynasty. The scenic area now features attractions such as the Shengjing Longevity Tripod, the Qilu Sages Wall, YuanYin Temple, Jade Emperor Pavilion, and the Mahavira Hall, making it a renowned scenic spot rich in historical and cultural significance.

Weishan Scenic Area is located in the central part of Shengjing Subdistrict Office. Weishan is a solitary hill rising between the mountainous region and the plains, covering an area of about 14,000 mu with an elevation of 205 meters. In ancient times, Weishan was densely forested, home to numerous temples and stone tablets, and was known as "Little Mount Tai," making it a highly influential scenic destination in the Zhangqiu area. At that time, there was a grand complex of ancient buildings, initially constructed during the Han Dynasty and flourishing in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Historical records indicate that the Weishan temples were renovated multiple times during the reigns of Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty, Emperor Hongzhi of the Ming Dynasty, and Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. The last mountain fair was held on April 8, 1937. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the area suffered from repeated warfare, and the ancient buildings of Weishan were almost completely destroyed, leaving behind only ruins, lost stone tablets, and no longer the former glory.

Unearthing the historical and cultural essence of Weishan and restoring its once prosperous scene of abundance is a long-cherished wish of the people of Shengjing. In recent years, the Party Committee and government of Shengjing Subdistrict Office have united and led the local community in continuous efforts toward the development and construction of Weishan. They have brought water to the mountain, planted trees, and in 2001, engaged experts and scholars to redraw the overall construction plan for Weishan Scenic Area. By adopting a market-oriented approach and pooling government funds along with private capital, they have gradually restored some historic sites and built attractions such as Shengjing Square, YuanYin Temple, Jade Emperor Pavilion, the Tomb of the King of Jinan in the Han Dynasty, Shengjing Pavilion, Four Sages Spring, Sacred Spring Pool, Sages Bridge, and the Bixia Temple Complex. Cultural corridors and music teahouses have also been established, creating a unique cultural and scenic tourist area that uniquely combines mountain and city landscapes, offering leisure, sightseeing, folk culture, worship, and exhibitions.

1) Starting from Zhangqiu City, drive 2.5 km along S242, then turn right onto Shuangshan North Road.

2) Drive 1.5 km along Shuangshan North Road, then turn left ahead onto Century West Road.

3) Drive 1.4 km along Century West Road, then enter Jingshi East Road.

4) Drive 2.6 km along Jingshi East Road, then enter G309.

5) Drive 1.9 km along G309, then near E'zhuang Bridge, turn slightly right toward Bucun/Jinan.

6) Continue driving 3.5 km along G309, then turn left onto Panwang Road.

7) Drive 1.2 km along Panwang Road, then turn left and drive 590 meters to reach the destination (on the right side of the road), which is the scenic area.

Shengjing Subdistrict: Administrative Region and Population: Shengjing Subdistrict Office is located in the western part of Zhangqiu and serves as the western gateway where Zhangqiu connects seamlessly with Jinan. It is a key newly developed urban area under the city’s “One River, Two Cities” strategic plan. The subdistrict covers an area of 64 square kilometers, with 34,000 mu of arable land, governs 46 administrative villages, and has a population of 38,000.
