Baozhu Mountain Scenic Area

The Baozhu Mountain Scenic Area is located in the southeastern part of Guanzhuang Township, Zhangqiu City, about 20 kilometers from Mingshui District. It can be directly accessed via Pushue Road and Sanzhao Road.

The scenic area consists of twelve attractions that together create a stunning landscape. The most renowned are: Baozhu Mountain, Qinglong Temple, Mapeng Cliff, Shuangjing Spring, along with the spectacular waterfall, clear bay teeming with plump fish, the legacy of the crown prince, and the descent of the fierce tiger. Baozhu Mountain is situated within a river bend that is one li wide and two li long. Towering green mountains stand opposite each other on both banks, embracing a pool of azure water, while the mountain top is round, exquisite, and abruptly rising—hence the name Baozhu Mountain (meaning "Treasure Pearl Mountain"). In the sixth year of the Guangxu reign, local residents from the southern villages pooled funds and materials to build a temple on the mountain, named “Qinglong Temple.” The main hall enshrines the Tathagata Buddha, the east hall houses Guanyin, the west hall is dedicated to the Temple of Mount Tai, and the gate is guarded by the two guardians Heng and Ha. For a time, the temple enjoyed increasing incense offerings and popularity.

Since the reform and opening-up, tourism development at Baozhu Mountain has progressed, with government investment leading to the construction of a large dam capable of storing one million cubic meters of water. The delicate and beautiful Baozhu Mountain stands proudly amidst a pool of azure water, with green trees reflected on the surface, swallows skimming the water, and lush green algae—truly resembling the scenery of the Jiangnan region. A matching couplet describes it: “Green ripples and red temple echo the charm of Jiangnan; emerald peaks and layered ridges present a marvel of the northern frontier.” Not far away, the Baozhu Mountain Waterfall stands 19 meters high and 49 meters wide, shining brilliantly white and dazzling. When the mountain breeze blows, the waterfall’s flow resembles smoke and mist, with droplets scattering like pearls and forming a beautiful rainbow across the blue sky.

A couplet with a continuous matching phrase: “Baozhu Mountain, mountain upon mountain, green and clear, picturesque; Qinglong Bay, bay after bay, clear waters, rich with fish.”
