The Xiuyuan River Water Conservancy Scenic Area in Zhangqiu City is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a national water conservancy scenic area.

The Xiuyuan River Water Conservancy Scenic Area in Zhangqiu City stretches from Binhu Road in the east to Road 09 in the west, from Jinan Botanical Garden in the south to Zhugewu Reservoir in the north, spanning approximately thirty li (about 15 kilometers) from north to south. It covers a water area of 8,655 mu (about 5,770 acres) and a landscaped green area of about 10,000 mu (about 6,670 acres), classifying it as an urban river-lake type water conservancy scenic area.

The scenic area is designed around the theme of “water as the vein, green as the attire, culture as the essence, and people as the focus,” showcasing delicate and graceful water landscapes along with naturally harmonious wetland scenery. When the hopeful and enchanting morning light shines upon the Xiuyuan River, from a distance, it resembles a jade ribbon inlaid within a painting of water and sky. “Xiuyuan Morning Glow” has been successfully selected as one of the “New Eight Scenic Spots of Zhangqiu” due to its unique charm, and has also been nominated for the “New Eight Scenic Spots of Spring City.” The Xiuyuan River Water Conservancy Scenic Area boasts exceptional geographical advantages (with sufficient water supply provided by the Duozhuang Reservoir upstream, Dazhan Reservoir midstream, and Zhugewu Reservoir downstream), featuring the river surface scenery of the Xiuyuan River as the main aquatic landscape, naturally arranged landscapes of various flowers, trees, and shrubs, as well as technological landscapes combining water screen movies and musical fountains. These elements integrate the river channel with cultural, natural, and engineering landscapes to create a distinctive scene, making it an ideal destination for tourism, entertainment, leisure, and vacation. The scenic area is divided into four functional zones: suburban retreat, central recreation, leisure and entertainment, and ecological conservation. The Zhangqiu Eye Waterfall area is the core highlight of the Xiuyuan River scenic zone, where the main structure of the waterfall demonstrates notable architectural artistry and strong visual appeal. The scenic area enjoys a mild climate with distinct seasons, and its scenic resources are well distributed throughout the year, extending the optimal visiting period across all seasons. Spatially, it makes rational use of regional advantages and features scientifically planned layouts. The perfect combination of river, wetland, forest belt, and architecture, along with twelve dams and five scenic observation bridges within the river, creates layered and picturesque views. Visitors can choose different vantage points and perspectives to enjoy varying visual effects, all complementing each other in delightful harmony.

Approved as the ninth batch of provincial-level water conservancy scenic areas in 2012, and as the thirteenth batch of national-level water conservancy scenic areas in 2013.
