Kangchen Village in XiuHui Town, Zhangqiu City, has a long history of fennel cultivation, with the planting area now spanning over 600 acres. Using original ecological farming methods, the village produces green, pollution-free fennel seedlings that are tender, delicious, and richly aromatic. From afar, the fields look as if covered with a lush green carpet, and farmers harvest hope within this sea of green. Fennel seedlings are pungent, sweet, and warm in nature, known to aid digestion, regulate qi flow, stimulate appetite, relieve cold, and support yang energy—making them a beloved vegetable in northern China. Moreover, their distinctive fragrant aroma naturally deters many field pests, especially as food safety concerns have risen in recent years. Pesticide-free fennel has thus gained strong favor among both markets and consumers.

Kangchen Village has a long history. To the west of the village stands an ancient locust tree, which local lore says is over 300 years old. This grand locust tree reaches a height of 20.9 meters, with a breast-height diameter of 151.7 cm, a base diameter of 170.4 cm, and a ground-level circumference of 280 cm. Its crown forms a beautiful umbrella shape, spanning 15.2 meters from east to west and 16 meters from north to south. The longest branch extends 11.2 meters due north, while the shortest reaches 4.3 meters to the northwest. The bark is brown and flaky. The main trunk branches at 3 meters above the ground, with two particularly thick branches—each having hollow bases—that extend to the north and southwest respectively, along with numerous lateral branches. The main northern branch curves more toward the northwest and shows vigorous growth. Seven exposed roots radiate from the base of the trunk.
