Shandong College of Tourism and Hospitality is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The predecessor of Shandong College of Tourism and Hospitality was Shandong Tourism School, which was under the administration of the Shandong Provincial Tourism Bureau. It is a public full-time regular higher education institution at the junior college level, operating under the dual leadership of the Shandong Provincial Department of Education and the Shandong Provincial Tourism Bureau, with the latter taking the lead. Currently, it has seven academic departments: Hotel Management, Tourism Foreign Languages, Travel Agency Management, Leisure Industry Management, Nutrition and Culinary Arts, Basic Courses, and Computer Network Center. The college offers a comprehensive range of programs. In line with the evolving demands of the tourism market, the college has strengthened its program offerings, establishing a professional system that covers all major sectors of the tourism industry, with a total of 29 programs and specializations.

The college is located in the eastern university town of Jinan, an area with convenient transportation and complete supporting facilities. The campus spans 1,000 acres, built against a mountain backdrop with beautiful scenery, and is situated close to Jingshi East Road, offering extremely convenient access. The campus green coverage exceeds 40%, making it a garden-style unit in Jinan City.

The college’s hardware facilities are among the best in domestic tourism-focused higher education institutions. In addition to main facilities such as office buildings, teaching buildings, student dining halls, dormitory buildings, and a multi-functional plastic track and field, it also features a multi-purpose hall, dance and physical training rooms, simulated tour guide rooms, mock hotel rooms, mock restaurants, British-style bars, and more. Advanced facilities including an aviation simulation teaching center and a university student life service and activity center are currently under construction. The college is the only tourism-focused institution in China that owns a four-star on-campus training hotel, operates a fully licensed international travel agency, has a golf practice range, and publishes a large-scale fashion tourism magazine.

The college is an executive council member of the China Tourism Association and the vice president unit of its Education Branch. It also houses several provincial public institutions, including the Shandong Tourism Development Research Center, Shandong Tourism Training Center, Shandong Wine Training Center, and the editorial office of Travel World magazine. It has been awarded titles such as National Advanced School in Vocational Guidance for Vocational and Technical Schools, Provincial Civilized Unit, Advanced Collective in the Provincial Tourism System, and Advanced Grassroots Unit in Safe Construction. In August 2008, the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences awarded the college the world’s highest honor in the service industry—the “International Five-Star Diamond Award”—making it the first educational institution in the world to receive this accolade. In March 2009, the Shandong Provincial Department of Education announced that the college received an “Excellent” rating in its talent cultivation work evaluation. In April 2009, the college became a designated service provider for the “National Games Village” during the 11th National Games.
