Wangguan Site

The Wangguan Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Wangguan Site is located to the south of Wangguan Village, Diaozhen, Zhangqiu District. The protected area extends: east to the Pei (Jia)–Wang (Guang) rural road and its southern extension line, as well as the Luo River; south to the rural road leading from the Ming (Shui)–Diaozhen county road toward the northern end of Zhangguan Village and its eastern extension line; west to the Diaozhen–Xiliu–Zhangguan rural road; and north to the Diaozhen–Wangguan rural road. The construction control zone is the same as the protected area.

The terrain of the site is terraced, bordering the Luo River to the south, covering an area of approximately 200,000 square meters, with a cultural deposit thickness of about 2.5 meters. Exposed remains include ash pits, tombs, and red burned earth. Artifacts collected comprise sand-tempered reddish-brown pottery, clay red pottery ding (tripods), jars, bowls, pots, and supports from the Beixin culture, with decorative patterns such as stacked patterns and nipple motifs; stone tools including grinding plates and rollers; from the Dawenkou culture, there are clay red pottery bowls, painted pottery fragments, clay gray pottery gu-shaped cups, and ding feet; from the Longshan culture, there are sand-tempered black pottery, black-gray pottery, reddish-brown pottery, white pottery, and clay black pottery, with vessel types including ding, gui (a type of tripod), yan (steamer), jars, cups, and plates; from the Yueshi culture, there are sand-tempered black pottery and clay gray and black pottery, with vessel types including ding, dou (bean pots), and jars; as well as the rims of li (tripod cauldrons) from the Western Zhou Dynasty and ding feet, dou plates, and basins from the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. It is an important site in Jinan representing the Beixin, Dawenkou, Yueshi, and Zhou cultures.

On June 12, 1992, the Wangguan Site was designated as part of the second batch of provincial-level key cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Shandong Province.

Diaozhen Subdistrict: Diaozhen is located to the east of Jinan and the north of Zhangqiu, covering an area of 77.6 square kilometers. It governs 51 administrative villages with a population of 65,000 and has 72,000 mu of arable land. In recent years, guided by the Scientific Outlook on Development, Diaozhen has actively transformed its development model and carefully adjusted its economic structure on the journey toward building a prosperous, harmonious, and happy Zhangqiu. It is dedicated to constructing a comprehensive sub-center hub for the Zhangqiu county area.
