Houdigge Ruins

The Houdigge Ruins are a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

In 2006, the Hebei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics, the Xingtai Municipal Cultural Relics Management Office, and the Nangong Municipal Cultural Relics Preservation Office jointly conducted a survey and excavation at the Houdigge Ruins, located 29 kilometers southeast of Nangong City, Hebei. They discovered 20 types of relics and unearthed 283 Buddhist stone and pottery statues and fragments, among which the white marble statues were numerous and exquisitely carved. Based on the inscriptions and place names on the statues, it is known that this site has an important connection to Wucheng County, which underwent several changes during the Northern Dynasties, Sui, and Tang periods. This excavation is of significant importance for studying the history of Buddhist propagation and the evolution of statue-making in this region.
