Introduction

Yanzhou City Museum is located on Wenhua East Road in the urban area of the city, just a 3-minute bus ride from the train station square. The museum boasts a rich collection, with over 3,500 cultural relics from the Dawenkou Culture to the Ming and Qing dynasties, including nearly 100 national first- and second-class relics.

The Xinglong Pagoda is located inside the Yanzhou City Museum. It was built in the second year of the Renshou era of the Sui Dynasty (602 AD) and renovated in the seventh year of the Taiping Xingguo era of the Song Dynasty (982 AD), when it was converted into a straight-eaved pavilion-style pagoda. The pagoda is a brick-and-wood structure, 13 stories high, and 54 meters tall. It is an octagonal, hollow, pavilion-style brick pagoda with overlapping brick eaves and simple bracket sets. The lower seven stories are broad and solid, with stair steps between each level and a surrounding corridor allowing visitors to climb up step by step. The upper six stories taper sharply and are slender, forming a 2-meter-wide balcony surrounded by carved stone railings. Visitors can lean on the railings and gaze out to enjoy a full view of Yanzhou. In the 27th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1688), an earthquake caused the upper section of the pagoda to collapse and left numerous cracks in the structure. It was subsequently restored over the following 20-plus years. It is now a provincial-level key cultural relic protection unit.
