Site of Ziyang Mountain

The Site of Ziyang Mountain is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Site of Ziyang Mountain is located on the southern slope of Ziyang Mountain, west of Yanzhou City, adjacent to Hongfusi Village to the west. The site stretches 150 meters from north to south and 150 meters from east to west. It boasts rich cultural deposits with a stratigraphic accumulation about 3 meters thick, and is identified as a Dawenkou Culture site. Artifacts discovered here include pottery shards such as red clay pottery jars and pots, red clay pottery tripods and jars mixed with sand, and gray clay pottery pots, as well as stone shovels, stone axes, and other relics. The site remains well-preserved. It was discovered during the 1973 cultural relics survey. Approximately 200 meters west of the site, late Shang Dynasty vertical earthen pit tombs were found, yielding bronze artifacts such as jue (wine vessels), zhi (wine cups), and knives. One of the jue vessels bears an inscription of the character “sheep.” In 1985, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Jining City. According to the Yanzhou Government Document No. 28 (2009), the protected area is defined with the marker stele as the center point: extending 100 meters east, 100 meters west, 150 meters south, and 100 meters north to the marker stele. The construction control zone extends 100 meters outward from the boundary of the protected area in all directions.

In 2013, the Site of Ziyang Mountain was announced by the People's Government of Shandong Province as part of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units in Shandong.
