Temple of the Weaving Deity

The Temple of the Weaving Deity is a cultural heritage site protected by Jining City.

The Temple of the Weaving Deity is located at No. 1 Jishenmiao Street, Miaopu Community, Gulou Subdistrict Office, Yanzhou District. It was built to commemorate Leizu, the legendary inventor of sericulture and silk weaving. An inscription from the Ming Dynasty’s Wanli era documenting its renovation still exists, though the original construction date remains unknown. The current structure reflects Qing Dynasty architectural style, featuring front and rear halls both with flush-gable roofs. The front hall is three bays wide (8.7 meters) and 4.6 meters deep; the rear hall is also three bays wide (9.2 meters) and 5.1 meters deep, with four skylights on the southern roof for lighting—though the structure is now heavily damaged. According to the "Ziyang County Annals" under the "Products" section, the local weaving industry thrived continuously from the Ming Dynasty through the entire Qing Dynasty, leading to the establishment of the "Temple of the Weaving Deity" to honor Leizu. Even today, locals continue traditional worship rituals during festivals. This discovery provides important physical evidence for studying the development of the local textile industry. Per the Yanzhou Government Document (2009) No. 28, the protected area extends 30 meters outward from the temple’s outer boundary. The construction control zone extends an additional 30 meters outward from the protected area boundary.

On December 26, 2016, the Jining Municipal People's Government designated it as part of the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units in Jining.
