Gucheng Site

The Gucheng Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Yanzhou District.

The Gucheng Site is located on a highland in the northeast corner of Gucheng Village, Huangtun Town. The western half of the site lies beneath the village, while the eastern half has been damaged due to land leveling. It was discovered during a cultural relics survey in 1973. Covering an area of about 10,000 square meters, it is a site of the Dawenkou Culture. Surface remains include ash pits and burned earth. Collected artifact samples include pottery shards such as red clay pottery bowls and cups, gray clay pottery pots and cups, and red clay pottery with sand inclusions such as tripods and jars. Among them, red clay pottery shards are predominant, along with a few painted pottery shards, as well as stone axes and stone spades. The site has been severely damaged. It was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit in 1984.

According to the Yanzhou Government Document No. 28 (2009), the protected area is defined with the marker stele as the center point: 100 meters east, to the stele in the west, 50 meters south, and 100 meters north. The construction control zone extends 50 meters outward from the boundary of the protected area.
