Iron Plate Bridge

The Iron Plate Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Yanzhou District.

The Iron Plate Bridge is situated about 500 meters north of Zhanglou Village, Da’an Town, Yanzhou District, on the former course of the Cao River. Constructed during the Ming Dynasty, it is commonly known as the “Iron Plate Bridge” due to the dovetailed cast iron pieces used to secure the stone slabs of the bridge deck. The bridge extends from east to west, with an overall length of 27 meters and a width of 5.8 meters, featuring a three-arch stone structure. The dragon head ornaments on both the eastern and western sides of the original bridge were stolen in the 1980s. Currently, the three-arch stone structure remains stable and, aside from some minor localized damage to the stonework, the bridge is largely intact overall. This discovery holds significant value for the study of Ming Dynasty bridge construction characteristics. In October 2009, it was approved and announced by the Yanzhou Municipal People’s Government as part of the third batch of Yanzhou Municipal Cultural Relic Protection Units.
