Xinyixi Site

The Xinyixi Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Yanzhou District.

The Xinyixi Site is located about 100 meters west of Xinyi Village No. 4 in Xinyi Town. It was discovered during a cultural relics survey in 1981. The site stretches 200 meters from north to south and 100 meters from east to west, covering a total area of 20,000 square meters. It is a Longshan Culture site. The site is rich in content with a cultural deposit about 1.5 meters thick. Exposed remains include ash pits and red-fired earth. Collected artifact samples include pottery shards such as sand-tempered red pottery jars and tripods, clay black pottery dou (food vessels), basins, and boxes, as well as sand-tempered gray pottery jars and vessel lids. The site is well-preserved. In 1984, it was designated as a county-level key cultural relic protection unit. According to the Yanzhou Government Document (2009) No. 28, the protected area is defined with the marker stele as the center point, extending 150 meters east, 80 meters west, and 80 meters north. The construction control zone extends 50 meters outward from the boundary of the protected area.

Xinyi Town: Located about 20 kilometers northwest of Yanzhou City, Xinyi Town covers an area of 66 square kilometers and has a population of 50,179. It lies on the Yellow River alluvial plain at an elevation of 30 meters and enjoys a temperate monsoon climate. The area is abundant in wheat, corn, silkworm cocoons, and green onions, and also boasts rich reserves of yellow sand and groundwater. As part of the land of Confucius and Mencius, it is one of Yanzhou’s larger towns in terms of both population and area. The local economy is relatively developed. Located at the crossroads among four surrounding counties and cities, the town enjoys a superior geographical location and well-developed transportation. Every village is connected by asphalt roads, with access to program-controlled telephones and cable television. The sericulture and silk industry is robust, earning it the reputation as the “Hometown of Sericulture.”
