Yanzhou Martyrs' Tomb

The Yanzhou Martyrs' Tomb is a cultural relic protection unit of Yanzhou District.

The martyrs' tomb is located in the northwest corner of Yanzhou City. During the 1946 Battle of Yanzhou, 36 soldiers from a People's Liberation Army unit were killed by the enemy and their bodies were thrown into two large brick wells. To commemorate the martyrs and honor their spirits, the government built two martyr tombs over the wells in 1953. Each tomb covers an area of 36 square meters, with a height of 4.8 meters, shaped like a circular pyramid. Surrounding the tombs is a hexagonal flower wall that is 1.3 meters high. Each tomb has a stone stele, both standing 1.75 meters tall and 0.75 meters wide. The southern tomb is dedicated to 19 martyrs, with the inscription “Eternal Glory” on its stele. The northern tomb honors 17 martyrs, bearing the words “Immortal Forever.” Both are inscribed with the same signature: “Presented with deepest respect by representatives of all sectors of the people of Ziyang County. Erected on December 4, 1953.” This site serves as a place for the public to remember revolutionary martyrs and educate future generations.

According to the Yanzhou Government Document No. 28 (2009), the protected area is defined with the monument to the south as the central point, extending 30 meters east, 30 meters west, 30 meters south, and 70 meters north. The construction control zone extends 30 meters outward from the boundary of the protected area.
