Remnants of the West Gate City Wall

The remnants of the West Gate City Wall are a cultural relic protection unit of Yanzhou District.

The remnants of the West Gate City Wall are located on the east side of the moat along Zhongshan West Road in the Gulou Subdistrict Office (urban area). The site preserves a section of the surviving barbican wall of the West Gate, measuring 6 meters in length, 1 meter in width, and 4 meters in height. The bricks used in the wall are relatively large, each measuring 0.45 meters in length, 0.29 meters in width, and 0.13 meters in thickness. This section of the wall is part of the Ming Dynasty West Gate city wall ruins. In the early Ming Dynasty, Yanzhou was elevated to the status of a prefecture, leading to the southern expansion of the city. The original West Gate was relocated southward from the current Jianshe Road to Zhongshan Road. The remaining section of the West Gate wall dates back to the Ming Dynasty and holds significant physical reference value for understanding and studying the architectural style of Yanzhou City during the Ming period. In March 2003, it was approved and announced by the People's Government of Yanzhou City as part of the second batch of Yanzhou Municipal Cultural Relic Protection Units.
