Guo Family Residence

The Guo Family Residence is a cultural relic protection unit of Jining City.

The Guo Family Residence is located in Guocun Village, Xinyi Town, Yanzhou District. Built during the Republican era, it was owned by Guo Guangdong. The residence faces south and is a three-story pavilion-style building. It spans three bays with a width of 8.60 meters and a depth of 4.48 meters. Constructed with brick and wood, it has a flat roof and battlements. The first floor features arched doors with brick lattice windows on both the east and west sides. The second and third floors have six windows each— one window each on the east and west walls, three on the south wall, and one on the north wall—all of which are arched wooden windows. The main structure remains largely intact. This discovery holds significant value for the study of the architectural style and local cultural history of late Qing dynasty residences. In October 2009, it was approved and announced as part of the third batch of Yanzhou Municipal Cultural Relic Protection Units by the Yanzhou Municipal People’s Government. In November 2012, it was further designated as a Jining Municipal Cultural Relic Protection Unit.

Xinyi Town: Located approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Yanzhou District, Xinyi Town covers an area of 66 square kilometers and has a population of 50,179. Situated on the Yellow River alluvial plain at an elevation of 30 meters, it experiences a temperate monsoon climate. The town is abundant in wheat, corn, silkworm cocoons, and green onions, and also boasts rich reserves of yellow sand and groundwater. Part of the land of Confucius and Mencius, Xinyi is a large town in Yanzhou in terms of both population and area. With a relatively developed economy, it lies at the crossroads of four surrounding counties and cities, enjoying a strategically advantageous location and well-developed transportation. All villages are connected by asphalt roads, with access to program-controlled telephones and cable television. The sericulture and silk industry is highly developed, earning the town the reputation of “Home of Sericulture.”
