Zhangwang Site

The Zhangwang Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Jining City.

The Zhangwang Site is located 300 meters southwest of Zhangjiawangzi Village, Xiaomeng Town, Yanzhou City. The terrain is flat. The site stretches 480 meters from east to west and 350 meters from north to south, covering an area of approximately 16,000 square meters. It is an ancient cultural relic that encompasses various historical periods including the Dawenkou Culture, Longshan Culture, and Yueshi Culture of the Neolithic Age, as well as the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, and the Qin and Han Dynasties. The cultural deposit is about 2.5 meters thick, with a large number of artifacts exposed on the surface, mainly pottery, most of which are made of clay, followed by sand-tempered ware. The decorations include string patterns, rope patterns, and appliqué ridges, though most are plain. The site is generally well-preserved. This discovery provides important evidence for studying social development and changes from the Neolithic Age to the Qin and Han Dynasties. In October 2009, it was approved and announced as part of the third batch of Yanzhou Municipal Cultural Heritage Protection Units by the Yanzhou Municipal People's Government. In November 2012, it was designated as a Jining Municipal Cultural Heritage Protection Unit.

Xiaomeng Town: Xiaomeng Town in Yanzhou City is located at the junction of Yanzhou, Wenshang, and Ningyang across two cities and three counties, covering a total area of 51.1 square kilometers. It has 4,133 hectares of arable land and governs 5 administrative regions and 42 administrative villages, with a total population of 39,000. The town has a long history, and within its borders are well-known Dawenkou Culture sites—the Xiwusi Site and the Sangyuan Site.
