Site of Xidun Village

The Site of Xidun Village is a cultural relic protection unit of Jining City.

The Site of Xidun Village is situated on a high terrace to the south of Xidun Village in Xinyi Town. The site spans roughly 300 meters in length from north to south and about 250 meters in width from east to west, with a total area of 75,000 square meters. It is a cultural heritage site that includes the Dawenkou, Longshan, and Shang-Zhou cultures. The site boasts rich cultural content with a stratified deposit of around 2.5 meters. Collected specimens include fragments of red clay pottery bowls, gray clay pottery pots, red pottery ding (tripod cauldrons), li (tripod steamers), and jars made with sand-tempered clay, as well as black clay pottery dou (stemmed bowls) and cups. The site remains well-preserved. In 1985, it was designated as a Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit of Jining City. According to the Yanzhou Government Document No. 28 (2009), the protected area is defined with the marker stele as the center point, extending 100 meters east, 200 meters west, 100 meters south, and 150 meters north. The construction control zone extends 100 meters outward from the boundary of the protected area in all directions.

Xinyi Town: Located approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Yanzhou City, Xinyi Town covers an area of 66 square kilometers and has a population of 50,179. It lies on the Yellow River alluvial plain at an elevation of 30 meters and enjoys a temperate monsoon climate. The area is abundant in wheat, corn, silkworm cocoons, and green onions, and also has rich reserves of yellow sand and groundwater. As part of the land of Confucius and Mencius, Xinyi is one of the most populous and largest towns in Yanzhou. The local economy is relatively developed, and the town benefits from a strategic location at the crossroads of four surrounding counties and cities. Transportation is highly accessible, with every village connected by asphalt roads, equipped with program-controlled telephones and cable television. The sericulture and silk industry is thriving, earning the town the reputation of “Hometown of Silkworm and Silk.”
