Jiuxian Bridge

Jiuxian Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

Jiuxian Bridge is situated on the Fu River in the urban area of Yanzhou. Built during the Ming Dynasty, it features a single arch, is constructed of brick and stone, and has a stone-paved deck. Stone-carved railings line both sides of the bridge. The bridge was named in honor of the great Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai. “Li Bai made Yanzhou his home for twenty years, making it his second hometown,” as officially affirmed at the 1994 international academic symposium “Li Bai in Shandong,” with Jiuxian Bridge serving as one of the supporting pieces of evidence. In the 1940s, an ancient stele inscribed with the three characters “Jiuxian Bridge” was unearthed near the old eastern gate of the city, confirming that “Jiuxian Bridge” is indeed the authentic name of the bridge. Since ancient times, Li Bai should be regarded as the foremost “immortal of wine.” As the people of Yanzhou — Li Bai’s second hometown where he resided for over twenty years in Shachu — sought to commemorate this great poet, out of their love and reverence for the “Immortal of Wine,” they later named a stone bridge near his former residence at Donglumen as “Jiuxian Bridge.” In March 2001, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Jining City. According to the Yanzhou Government Document No. 28 (2009), the protected area extends 30 meters outward from the outer edge of the bridge in all directions, while the construction control zone extends an additional 30 meters outward from the boundary of the protected area.

Jiuxianqiao Subdistrict: Jiuxianqiao Subdistrict in Yanzhou City was established in June 2008. Located in the eastern part of Yanzhou, it is home to three rivers: the Si River, the Xiao Yi River, and the Fu River, covering an area of 11.3 square kilometers. In 2012, it governed 13 administrative villages and 6 communities. By the end of 2013, the subdistrict had a total population of 32,899, including 21,285 permanent urban residents, representing an urbanization rate of 65%.
