Yanzhou Locomotive Depot Water Tower

The Yanzhou Locomotive Depot Water Tower is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The locomotive depot water tower is located within the Yanzhou Locomotive Depot compound at Jiuxianqiao Subdistrict Office, Yanzhou City. Built in 1912 by the Germans, it is a typical European-style structure and served as the water supply facility for the then-Yanzhoufu Railway Station. The tower is constructed of stone and concrete, standing approximately 35 meters tall with a base circumference of 25.9 meters. It features an iron spire roof, and around the midsection of the tower are seven embedded small windows. The lower part of the water reservoir is surrounded by a ring of stone column capitals. Despite multiple renovations and maintenance efforts over the years, it has retained its original historical appearance. The original Yanzhoufu Railway Station no longer exists, but the water tower remains standing and continues to serve an important water supply function. As a representative example of European-style architecture in the region and a witness to the beginning of Yanzhou’s railway construction, the tower holds significant historical and cultural value. In October 2009, it was approved by the Yanzhou Municipal People's Government and designated as part of the third batch of Yanzhou Cultural Relics Protection Units. In November 2012, it was further listed as a Jining Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Jiuxianqiao Subdistrict: Jiuxianqiao Subdistrict of Yanzhou City was established in June 2008. Located in the eastern part of Yanzhou, it encompasses three rivers: the Si River, the Xiao Yi River, and the Fu River, covering an area of 11.3 square kilometers. In 2012, it administered 13 administrative villages and 6 communities. By the end of 2013, the subdistrict had a total population of 32,899, including 21,285 permanent urban residents, representing an urbanization rate of 65%.
