Xisangyuan Site

The Xisangyuan Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Xisangyuan Site is situated on a high terrace about 200 meters west of Xisangyuan Village in Xiaomeng Town, with an ancient ditch in the center. It was discovered during the 1973 cultural relics survey. The site is 200 meters long from north to south and 200 meters wide from east to west, covering an area of 40,000 square meters. It is a Beixin culture site. In the spring of 1990, the Shandong Work Team of the Institute of Archaeology at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences conducted a partial excavation of the site. The cultural deposit is about 2.5 meters thick, and the unearthed artifacts are mainly pottery. The pottery consists primarily of clay red pottery and sand-tempered red pottery, with vessel types including tripods, bowls, small-mouthed globular-necked pots, and pedestals. The Xisangyuan Site was designated as a cultural heritage protection unit of Jining City in 1985 and as a cultural heritage protection unit of Shandong Province in 1992.

Xiaomeng Town: Located at the junction of Yanzhou, Wenshang, and Ningyang (two cities and three counties), Xiaomeng Town in Yanzhou City covers a total area of 51.1 square kilometers, with 4,133 hectares of arable land. It administers 5 management areas and 42 administrative villages, with a total population of 39,000. The town has a long history and is home to the renowned Dawenkou culture sites — the Xiwusi Site and the Sangyuan Site. It enjoys convenient transportation, with the Jiyang Highway passing through the area and the Yanzhou-Liangshan Highway intersecting here. It serves as an important material distribution hub and a "golden triangle" for trade among Yanzhou, Ningyang, and Wenshang.
