Xixiahou Site

The Xixiahou Site is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Era: Neolithic Age, Shang Dynasty

Located 9 km southeast of Qufu City and 150 meters west of Xixiahou Village. It was discovered in 1957, and the provincial and county cultural relics departments conducted several clean-ups. In 1962, the Shandong Team of the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, carried out further investigation and excavation. The site covers an area of 300m × 400m, with cultural layers beneath the plow soil about 1.5 meters thick, where over 600 pieces of pottery, stone tools, and other artifacts were unearthed. Among the 11 tombs excavated, burial objects of similar types were arranged in large, medium, and small sizes, most notably ding (tripod cauldrons), smaller ding, and dou (bean-shaped vessels). This site represents a development stage of the middle to late Dawenkou Culture during the Neolithic Age, showing a continuous progression. In May 2013, it was designated as part of the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council.
