Former Site of the Headquarters of the Counter-Japanese Military and Political University (Kangda)
Located in Qian'nanyu Village within the park, its full name is the Chinese People's Counter-Japanese Military and Political University. Established in May 1936, it was originally named the Red Army University before being renamed. In November 1940, it relocated from Licheng, Shanxi to the Jiangshui River Valley, with its headquarters in Qian'nanyu, the political department in Jiangshui, the supply department in Hedong, the health department in Anzhuang, and the hospital in Taoshuping. In January 1943, it was ordered to return to Yan'an. Here, it successively held three training sessions (the 6th, 7th, and 8th), training over 18,000 military and political cadres, including 109 who were awarded the rank of Major General or higher in 1955. The village now houses the former headquarters, operations and training department, library, cipher office, as well as the former residences of leaders such as Mao Zedong, Peng Dehuai, Luo Ronghuan, and school leaders Teng Daiyuan and He Changgong. It is currently a provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit.
The Kangda Exhibition Hall is located on the left side of the park entrance, built on a stepped terrace, with a construction area of 900 m². The walls are made of locally quarried granite, and the roof is covered with red glazed tiles. The name of the hall was inscribed by Yang Chengwu, former Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. The hall displays artifacts and photographs showcasing the lives, studies, and battles of the students during the university’s operation here. It is a national-level patriotic education demonstration base and a national defense education base.
The Kangda Monument is located at the eastern entrance of Qian'nanyu Village. Its foundation was laid and the monument was completed in 1986. The monument stands 21 meters tall, with all four sides covered in white granite. The front bears an inscription by Comrade Jiang Zemin, former General Secretary of the Communist Party of China. The text of the monument was written by He Changgong, former Vice President of Kangda. The monument is surrounded by white marble railings.
The Kangda Memorial Square is located directly below the steps of the exhibition hall, covering an area of 10,000 m². During the university’s operation here, it served as the students’ drill and training ground. In May 1941, a grand celebration was held here to mark the fifth anniversary of Kangda. The square is connected to the exhibition hall by a 30-meter-wide staircase.

Wanbang Treasure Orchard is located in the ecological sightseeing area. With an investment of 13.8 million yuan, it utilized local red sandstone strips to build 82,688 m³ of cement mortar retaining walls, developed 50 hectares of high-standard terraced fields, and planted 26,698 trees of high-quality foreign fruit varieties. It also features beautification and greening belts, as well as water-saving irrigation facilities such as sprinklers and micro-sprinklers. It is one of the areas open for fruit picking by visitors.
The Kangda Stele Forest is located on the northern side of the middle section of Yingjie Ridge within the park. Built in May 2006, the stele forest covers an area of 1,500 m² and houses over 100 stelae. These include inscriptions and mottos for Kangda written by proletarian revolutionaries of the older generation such as Mao Zedong and others, as well as inscriptions by leaders of later generations. There are also inscriptions by veterans of Kangda and veteran generals.
The Science and Technology Stele Forest is located within Wanbang Treasure Orchard. Built in 2004, it covers an area of 1,500 m² and houses over 60 stelae. These were calligraphed in regular script with brushes by 120 children aged 6–12 from the Kangda Enlightenment Academy, writing verses that praise the beautiful landscapes of the motherland.
The wartime fortifications are located at the foot of Wanshou Peak within the park, built between 1969 and 1971. They served as military command posts during the Cold War. They are mainly divided into underground and above-ground sections. The above-ground part includes facilities such as a canteen, dormitories, water supply, power supply, garages, and warehouses, all built within dense forests. The underground part mainly consists of meeting rooms, combat command facilities, as well as canteens, dormitories, water supply, and power supply facilities. Located deep in the Taihang Mountains in Qian'nanyu Village, Jiangshui Town, Xingtai County, under the leadership of Guo Chengzhi, the villagers carried forward the spirit of the Foolish Old Man Who Removed the Mountains. After decades of unremitting struggle, they transformed a barren land described as “bare hills everywhere, floods in the rain, disasters when it rains, and thirsty cattle when there’s no rain” into the greenest place in the Taihang Mountains.
The villagers say that what enabled Qian'nanyu to reach where it is today is a spirit of “foolish perseverance.”
In early July, reporters visited the “Pearl of the Taihang Mountains,” Qian'nanyu, where “endless green mountains meet the sound of birds, and the wind flutters the curtains bringing the fragrance of fruit...” More detailed information about Qian'nanyu Village ++
