Tomb of Wu Wenchang

The Tomb of Wu Wenchang is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Tomb of Wu Wenchang is located in Wujia Village, Xiaoxue Town, Qufu City, Shandong Province. The burial site was first constructed in the 3rd year of the Yongle era of the Ming Dynasty (1405 AD). The deceased was named Wu Xing, with the courtesy name Wenchang and the pseudonym Fuhai. Originally from Fengyang, Anhui, he moved to Qufu, Shandong during the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty. Known for his honesty, moral uprightness, and dedication to virtuous deeds, he was highly respected by his fellow villagers. His descendants later settled here and grew into a prominent family. The stone stele was erected in the 34th year of the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty (1908), and its inscription details the life of the tomb owner as well as the lineage of his descendants.

According to research by cultural heritage experts, the original tomb mound was large and imposing, and the tombstone featured a double-dragon relief on its top. This unique artistic design subtly conveyed the descendants’ wish for enduring wealth and honor for their ancestor.

The Tomb of Wu Wenchang was designated as one of the first batch of cultural relic protection units in Qufu City, Shandong Province in 1986, and was later listed as part of the fourth batch of cultural relic protection units in Jining City, Shandong Province in 2012.

(1) Location: Wujia Village, Xiaoxue Subdistrict, Qufu City.

(2) Protected Area: A 10-meter radius around the tomb.

(3) Construction Control Zone: A 100-meter buffer beyond the protected area.

Wujia Village: Nestled within the embrace of Jiulong Mountain and the source of the Baima River, Wujia Village borders Zoucheng City to the south. It has a population of 2,330, with 2,060 mu of arable land and nearly 3,000 mu of mountainous terrain. The village has 62 Party members and a seven-member village committee. Jiulong Mountain is home to historical sites such as the Han Dynasty Tomb of the King of Lu and cliff carvings from the Tang Dynasty.
