Former Residence of Kong Guangsen

The former residence of Kong Guangsen is a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The former residence of Kong Guangsen is located at the west end of East Gate Street in Qufu, Shandong Province. It was built during the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty and served as the residence of Kong Jifen, the son of the 68th-generation Duke Yansheng Kong Chuanduo, and his grandson Kong Guangsen.

Originally named "Dunben Hall," it was commonly referred to as the "Tenth Mansion" because Kong Jifen was the tenth son and held the official position of Director of the Ministry of Revenue. Later, Kong Guangsen, who revered the Han Confucian scholar Zheng Xuan, renamed it "Yizheng Hall." The residence covers an area of over 4,840 square meters and currently consists of 14 structures including the main hall and side rooms, all built with brick and wood, featuring single-eave gable-and-hip roofs covered with gray tiles. The main hall has five bays, with seven rafters and four columns, and includes a front porch, making it the primary surviving structure. There are three side rooms on each of the east and west sides, each with five rafters and four columns, also featuring front porches. Additionally, there is a three-room study in the western courtyard.

(2) Protected Area: Within 5 meters outside the existing building foundations.

(3) Construction Control Zone: 15 meters north of the protected area, 5 meters south extending to residential areas, 10 meters west extending to residential areas, and 15 meters east extending to the west wall of the Experimental Primary School.

Kong Guangsen (1753–1787)

A scholar of the Qing Dynasty. His courtesy names were Zhongzhong and Huizhao, and his art name was Xuanxuan. He adopted the studio name Yizheng, aspiring to follow in the footsteps of Zheng Xuan. A native of Qufu, Shandong Province, he was the 68th-generation descendant of Confucius. He became a Jinshi (successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations) in the 36th year of the Qianlong reign, was appointed as a Shujishi (probationary official) in the Hanlin Academy, and later served as a Jiancha (imperial censor). Coming from a noble family and achieving success at a young age, he was widely sought after for association. However, he was naturally reserved and dedicated himself to writing, avoiding association with the powerful. He resigned to care for his parents and never returned to official service.
