Qufu Normal University

Qufu Normal University was founded in 1955 in Jinan and was initially known as Shandong Teachers' College. In May 1956, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be upgraded to Qufu Teachers' College, and relocated to Qufu in September of the same year, marking the beginning of undergraduate education. From September 1970 to April 1974, it merged with the arts departments of Shandong University to become the new Shandong University. In April 1974, the structure of Qufu Teachers' College was restored. In 1981, it was designated by the Shandong Provincial Government as one of the six key universities for development; in the same year, it was approved as one of the first institutions in China to enroll graduate students. In 1982, it obtained the authority to award master's degrees. In November 1985, the university was renamed Qufu Normal University. In 2002, the Rizhao Campus was established. In 2003, it gained the authority to confer doctoral degrees. In 2004, it received an excellent rating in the Ministry of Education’s undergraduate teaching assessment. In 2012, it was selected as a distinctive university for applied talent cultivation in Shandong Province. In 2014, it was chosen as a collaborative partner in the HP International Software Talent and Industry Base Project. In 2017, it was included in the second batch of national demonstration universities for innovation and entrepreneurship education and was designated by the Ministry of Education for the training of outstanding secondary school teachers. After more than 60 years of development, it has now grown into a comprehensive provincial key university with two campuses in Qufu and Rizhao, offering a full range of disciplines, a well-established education system, excellent teaching and research capabilities, and a strong faculty.

The university has 2 ESI top 1% disciplines worldwide (Engineering and Chemistry), and 3 Shandong Province-level first-class disciplines under development (Engineering, Mathematics, and Chinese History). It offers 11 first-level doctoral disciplines, 1 doctoral professional degree program, 25 first-level master's disciplines, 7 postdoctoral research stations, and 87 undergraduate majors, forming a comprehensive academic system covering 10 major disciplines including Humanities, Science, Engineering, and Law. The university has built 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 1 national high-quality resource-sharing course, 6 national characteristic specialty programs, 1 national comprehensive reform pilot program, and 1 national off-campus practice base for college students. It also hosts 3 provincial collaborative innovation centers, 18 provincial key disciplines, 7 provincial key laboratories, 2 provincial enhanced research bases for humanities and social sciences, 1 provincial key think tank, and 7 provincial and ministerial-level research bases jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the General Administration of Sport, and the Shandong Provincial Government, creating a vibrant academic innovation platform. Currently, there are 32,581 undergraduate students, 3,837 doctoral and master's students, over 6,200 adult education students, and 110 international students. The university provides a complete talent cultivation system encompassing Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral, and postdoctoral education, as well as interconnected programs such as distance education, continuing education, vocational education, and adult education.

The university has appointed Nobel Prize laureate Dr. Samuel C.C. Ting as its honorary president. It currently has 2,217 staff members, including 1,446 full-time teachers, among whom 224 are professors and 500 are associate professors. The university also has 2 dual-appointed academicians, 3 leading talents in philosophy and social sciences under the National “Ten Thousand Talents Plan,” 3 national cultural figures and “Four Batches” talents, 2 national candidates of the “New Century Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project,” 1 national teaching master, 1 national inspector, 1 recipient of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 1 young expert of the Yangtze River Scholars Program, 7 recipients of the Ministry of Education’s “New Century Excellent Talents Support Program,” 1 member of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council’s Professional Degree Education Guidance Committee, 1 deputy director of the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Teaching Guidance Committee, 19 experts with outstanding contributions at the national and Shandong provincial levels, 11 Taishan Scholars Distinguished Professors (including 3 overseas Taishan Scholars), 4 Taishan Young Scholars, 6 high-end talents of the provincial think tank, 16 individuals enjoying the State Council Special Allowance, 5 national model teachers, and 5 outstanding teachers of the national master's in education program, forming a high-level talent team.

The university covers an area of 3,061 acres, with total assets valued at 1.312 billion yuan, including 239 million yuan worth of teaching and research equipment. Its library houses a collection of 4.16 million volumes. It publishes several academic journals, including Qi-Lu Journal (a second-batch nationally funded outstanding social science journal), Journal of Qufu Normal University (Natural Science Edition), Middle School Mathematics Magazine, and Modern Chinese.

Transportation

After exiting Qufu Bus Station, you can directly take Bus No. 5 or No. 3 right at the station entrance and get off at the “Qufu Normal University South Gate” stop (Bus No. 5 is air-conditioned with a fare of 2 yuan, while Bus No. 3 is not air-conditioned and costs 1 yuan. The journey takes about 15 minutes).
