Wang Dingming’s Tomb Garden

Wang Dingming’s Tomb Garden is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Shandong Province.

Wang Dingming’s Tomb Garden is located in Xiwangzhuang Township, Shizhong District, Zaozhuang City. It dates back to the Qing Dynasty and was listed as part of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the Shandong Provincial People's Government in 2013.

The tomb garden, reconstructed with an investment of 500,000 RMB by Wang Shuhua, the seventh-generation descendant of Wang Dingming, the Qing Dynasty magistrate of Xintian County, Hunan, spans two mu. It includes three large tombs, with the one on the eastern side being that of Wang Dingming.

Wang Dingming served as the magistrate of Xintian County, Hunan during the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty. He died in battle while suppressing a rebellion by the Yao people. In recognition of his loyalty and righteousness, Emperor Daoguang ordered an honorable burial and the erection of a dragon-carved stele at his tomb. However, the site was damaged during the Cultural Revolution. Wang Dingming’s seventh-generation descendant, Wang Shuhua, together with municipal and district historical experts, sought to promote the spirit of this heroic figure. They conducted emergency research into Wang Dingming’s life and deeds, and on this basis, invested in building Wang Dingming’s Tomb Garden. The newly constructed garden largely restores the original state of the burial site, featuring the tombs of Wang Dingming, his mother, and his wife, all shaded by lush pine and cypress trees. In front of the tombs lies a forest of steles, including a replica of the dragon-carved stele commissioned by Emperor Daoguang, as well as a commemorative stele erected by the Shizhong District CPPCC, documenting Wang Dingming’s heroic legacy and the remembrance of later generations. The site has now been designated as a base for integrity education, and plans are underway to build a Wang Dingming Memorial Hall, making it an important place for honoring martyrs and educating future generations.
