Taoqiu

Taoqiu is located 4 kilometers southwest of Dingtao County and 200 meters north of Feizhuang Village in Maji Town. The Bamboo Annals states: "In the 89th year of Emperor Yao's reign, he built a pleasure palace at Tao; in the 90th year, the emperor resided at Tao." The Shuowen Jiezi says: "Taoqiu has the city of Yao, where Yao once lived." The Records of the Grand Historian · The Basic Annals of the Five Emperors records: "Shun farmed on Mount Li, fished in the Leize Marsh, and made pottery by the river." The Huanyu Ji (Treatise on the Regions Within the Seas) states: "The riverside area is ten li southwest of Dingtao County, which is Taoqiu." The original front gate of Hebin Temple bore an inscription reading "Place where Emperor Shun Made Pottery," but the temple was destroyed during the War of Resistance against Japan. Yao governed from Taoqiu, and Shun once made pottery here.

Maji Town: a township under the jurisdiction of Dingtao County. Established as the Weixing Commune in August 1958, later renamed Maji Commune, and became a township in 1984. It is located in the southwestern part of the county, on the north bank of the Dongyu River and the south bank of the new Dingtao River. Covering an area of 37 square kilometers with a population of 23,000, it is traversed by the Ding (tao)–Maji and Ding (tao)–Zhangwan highways, which run through the central and northern parts of the township respectively.
