Poyang Lake National Wetland Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a national wetland park.

Poyang Lake National Wetland Park features wetlands as its main landscape, integrating a composite of other types such as lakes, rivers, grassy marshes, mudflats, and islands. It is one of the world’s six major wetlands, the largest in Asia in terms of wetland area and richest in wetland species, a national 4A-level scenic spot, and also the best area to view Poyang Lake.

Poyang Lake is vast and majestic, with numerous rivers, winding streams, sprawling farmland, and stretches of reeds within the park. The scenery of lake and mountain is serene, the environment elegant, and the air fresh, encapsulating the spirit of landscapes and blending nature with culture. The wetland park integrates cultural elements such as wetland culture, migratory bird culture, farming culture, and culinary culture, forming a wetland tourism landscape that combines multiple styles of cultural landscapes.

Poyang Lake National Wetland Park is a purely natural ecological composite wetland park with wetlands—such as lakes, rivers, grassy marshes, mudflats, islands, floodplains, and ponds—as its main landscape. It boasts rich and diverse wetland resources and is highly representative. It is one of the world’s six major wetlands, the largest in Asia in terms of wetland area and richest in wetland species, a national 4A-level scenic spot, and a China science education base.

The total area of the wetland park is 36,285.0 hectares, of which the wetland area is 35,116.1 hectares, accounting for 96.8% of the total land area. It is located in Poyang County in the northeastern part of Jiangxi Province, on the eastern shore of Poyang Lake and in the core area of the Poyang Lake Ecological Economic Zone. It lies at the center of resort destinations such as Mount Lu, China’s porcelain capital Jingdezhen, Taoist sacred site Longhu Mountain, UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site Sanqingshan, and China’s most beautiful countryside Wuyuan. The geographical coordinates are: longitude 116°23′39″ to 116°44′38″, latitude 28°56′52″ to 29°13′31″. In 2008, it was approved as a national wetland park [1-3]. In 2011, it was awarded the titles of Jiangxi Advanced Tourist Attraction and Jiangxi Top Ten New Tourist Attractions.

The southwestern boundary of the wetland park is the county border of Poyang County. From the junction of Poyang, Yugan, and another county heading south (along the county border to) Xiaomingzui in Lianhu Township (along the embankment to) the road between Siwang Lake and Changjiang River (along the road to) the embankment between Siwang Lake and Beikou Lake (along the embankment to) Qingzhou Bend (along the southern bank of the waterway between Yunhu and Beikou Lake to) the junction where the water meets the Le’an River at Jiaoshan (along the eastern bank of the Le’an River to) the confluence of the Le’an River and Changjiang River, then northward including Donghu, Diezi Lake, Datang Lake, and the section from Chang-Jia Factory to Xiagfeng Bank (from Hujia Factory along the embankment to) Shangtu Lake (including Shangtu Lake and Qingshan Lake, then along the embankment to) Zhuhu Lake (including Zhuhu Lake and Baishazhou Island, then along the permanent land boundary on the western side of Zhuhu Township to) Yaocha Village (from inside Poyang Lake heading north to) Zhangtian River (along Zhangtian River heading west to) the county border (along the county border to) Wushan (along the edge of permanent water bodies heading south to) Changshan Island and Xiashan Island (along the eastern shore of the islands heading south to) the county border (along the county border to) the junction of Poyang, Yugan, and another county. Additionally, it includes a plot of land about 1.8 km long and 1 km wide between Qingshan Lake and Zhuhu Lake.

Seven Zones: Refers to the seven functional zones into which Poyang Lake National Wetland Park can be divided: Hanchi Lake Waterfowl Habitat Conservation and Nursery Zone, Jiaofengwei Wetland Restoration and Reconstruction Zone, Zhuhu Water Source Wetland Conservation Zone, Baishazhou Natural Wetland Exhibition Zone, Qingshan Lake Artificial Wetland Utilization Demonstration Zone, Donghu Urban Wetland Leisure Zone, and Management Service Zone.

Two Corridors: From the Baishazhou Bird-Watching Dyke all the way to the Changjiang River flood control dyke is the park’s “Green Corridor” (short for “Green Corridor”), and from the county town, passing through Shangtou Lake and Qingshan Lake to reach Zhuhu Lake, is the park’s “Blue Corridor” (short for “Blue Corridor”).

Four Matrices: Respectively “Wetland Conservation and Nursery Matrix,” “Wetland Restoration and Reconstruction Matrix,” “Wetland Sustainable Use Matrix,” and “Ecotourism Matrix.” These four matrices play a fundamental regulatory role in the wetland park.

Ten Projects: Mainly refer to the construction projects of Poyang Lake Cultural Water City, waterfowl habitat conservation and nursery project, wetland restoration and reconstruction project, Zhuhu water source conservation project, wetland comprehensive utilization demonstration project, wetland ecotourism development project, wetland scientific research, monitoring and education project, environmental protection project, community co-construction and co-management project, and infrastructure construction project.

Public Transport

1. You can take a long-distance bus directly from Nanchang to Poyang County, or take a train to Leping and then transfer to a bus to Poyang County.

2. The Poyang County Visitor Service Center of Poyang Lake National Wetland Park offers free shuttle buses to the wetland park, departing at 7:30 AM and 2:30 PM daily. Return buses are around 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

Ticket Prices

Adult ticket: 80 RMB; child ticket (1.2–1.5 m): 30 RMB; senior ticket (60–70 years old): 30 RMB; children under 1.2 m are free.

Opening Hours

8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. Outer lake boat tickets stop selling at 1:30 PM, and general tickets plus inner lake boat tickets stop selling at 3:30 PM. Boat operation hours are 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with departures every half hour on weekdays and as needed during holidays. No boat departs at 11:30 AM.
