Maojiuling

Maojiuling Township is located in the southern part of Shangrao City, facing the urban area across the border, covering an area of 25 square kilometers. The world-renowned site of the former Shangrao Concentration Camp (Maojiuling Martyrs' Cemetery) is situated here. The internationally famous Shangrao Concentration Camp was a historical product of the Southern Anhui Incident. It primarily detained over 760 individuals, including Ye Ting, the commander of the New Fourth Army who was captured during negotiations in the Southern Anhui Incident, as well as New Fourth Army officers above the rank of platoon leader who were captured after running out of ammunition and supplies, along with patriotic and progressive figures. The former site of the Maojiuling Prison is located in Maojiuling Village, Xinzhou District. Originally used as the detention block of the Shangrao Concentration Camp, it was known as the prison within a prison, hence called the “Black Hell.” It contained iron wire cages and large iron pots used for boiling chili water. The site consists of four suspended gable roofs enclosing the area. It features a wooden structure with brick and stone walls, forming a closed temple-style building.
