Shanglu Yu Family Ancestral Hall

The Yu Family Ancestral Hall is situated in the central part of Shanglu Plain, Shanglu Town, Shangrao County. It faces south and spans an area of 2,000 square meters. It was first constructed in the 11th year of the Zhi Zheng era (1351) during the late Yuan Dynasty by the 15th-generation ancestors Xiangyi Gong Yu Deyuan and Xiang’er Gong Yu Deshao. The structure was subsequently renovated by successive generations. In the Year of Yiyu (1849) during the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty, the entire clan further expanded the ancestral hall on the original site. In the Year of Bingchen (1856) during the Xianfeng reign, it was refurbished with gold lacquer, and in the Year of Yichou (1889) during the Guangxu reign, the rear section was rebuilt.

In 1942, with Yu Huizhao taking the lead, a board of directors was established. Named after the ancestral Confucian scholars Fangshu and Zhengshu, the Fangzheng Primary School was founded within the ancestral hall. The Yu family funded the school, enrolling children from various surnames. After the liberation, the government also operated the Shanglu Primary School in the ancestral hall.

In 1997, it was listed as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit.

In 2013, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit, boasting a history of 666 years to date.

Shanglu Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Shangrao County. It is a major production area for tea and handmade paper in the county. Established as Shanglu Commune in 1958, it became a township in 1984 and was upgraded to a town in 1991. Located in the southwestern part of the county along the middle reaches of the Luxi River, it is 23 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 64 square kilometers with a population of 25,000, it is connected via the Lizhou–Shanglu Road to the Shangrao–Ganxi Road to the north. The town administers 12 village committees: Shanglu, Zhuzhen, Tianchuangyan, Jiangjia, Xibei, Hubian, Xiaoyuan, Maoyuan, Quanyang, Sanliankeng, Hongqu Forest Farm, and Wangjiashan.
