Courtyard House at No. 23, Liutiao, Xisi North Street
The courtyard house at No. 23, Liutiao, Xisi North Street is a protected cultural heritage site of Beijing.
The courtyard house at No. 23, Liutiao, Xisi North Street is located on Xisi North Street in Xicheng District. It follows a four-courtyard layout. Facing south, the main gate is situated at the southeastern corner of the residence and is a guangliang (grand) gate, flanked by mounting stones on either side. Inside the gate, there is a screen wall directly ahead, with two wing rooms on the east and six on the west. The second courtyard is smaller, with rooms on the east and west sides. The second and third courtyards are connected by a floral-pendant gate, which is of the one-bay-one-scroll style, with winding corridors on both sides and a decorative lantern window on the southern wall. The second courtyard contains five northern rooms, all with front and rear corridors, covered with concave tiles, and the lower panels of the doors are carved with figures from "Journey to the West," as well as flower baskets and potted plants. Each of the northern rooms has two side rooms, and there are three wing rooms on the east and west sides. A passageway on the eastern side of the northern room leads to the third courtyard. The third courtyard has five northern rooms, with the lower panels of the central door carved with patterns of squirrels, grapes, potted plants, and flower baskets, and side wing rooms. There are three wing rooms on the east and west sides. An entrance on the eastern side of the northern room leads to the eastern wing courtyard. The fourth courtyard contains nine rear rooms, with patterned lower panels on the doors. The eastern wing courtyard has three northern rooms, one side room on the east and west, and three wing rooms on the east and west. In 1987, it was designated as a protected area with construction control boundaries, with the protected area covering the compound of No. 23. It is currently used by the Xicheng District Infant Health Care Experimental Institute.
