In May 1933, the Fujian–Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the CPC and the Provincial Revolutionary Committee were established, with their leading organs located at the Gong Family Mansion at the bridgehead in Hufang. On June 4, 1933, the Fujian–Jiangxi Provincial Military District was founded at the Wu Family Ancestral Temple in Hufang. The Fujian–Jiangxi Soviet Area was an important part of the Central Soviet Area and served as the northeastern gateway to the Central Revolutionary Base. It functioned as a vital link and corridor connecting the Central Soviet Area with the Northeastern Jiangxi Revolutionary Base, and was regarded as the “strategic key to the Central Soviet Area” that could never be relinquished. The Fujian–Jiangxi Provincial administration lasted for two years (May 1933 – May 1935), governing all or parts of 21 counties and cities across five present-day prefecture-level cities in Fujian and Jiangxi provinces—namely Sanming, Nanping, Fuzhou, and Yingtan—covering an area of approximately 20,000 square kilometers with a population of over one million. During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, the broad masses of military and civilians in the Fujian–Jiangxi Soviet Area waged arduous and extraordinary struggles for the victory of the revolution, making significant contributions and tremendous sacrifices. As the birthplace of the leading organs of the Fujian–Jiangxi Provincial administration, the Former Site of the Fujian–Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the CPC, Provincial Revolutionary Committee, and Provincial Military District in Hufang holds great revolutionary commemorative significance and preservation value.

On October 7, 2019, the Former Site of the Fujian–Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the CPC, Provincial Revolutionary Committee, and Provincial Military District in Hufang was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
