Miaofa Chan Temple

Miaofa Chan Temple is located at the foot of Lushan Mountain in Miaofa Village, Hufang Township, covering an area of nearly 30,000 square meters. Also known as Lushan Temple, it was first built in the second year of the Zhenguan Era of the Tang Dynasty (628 AD) and has undergone multiple renovations and expansions since. At its peak, it housed over 200 monks and nuns. The main structures today consist of a three-tiered Buddhist complex, including the Heavenly King Hall, the Mahavira Hall, and the Guanyin Hall. The temple still preserves precious cultural relics such as a large plaque inscribed with “Miaofa Chan Temple,” erected in the fifth year of the Kangxi Era of the Qing Dynasty (1666 AD), and a plaque inscribed with “Vast Virtue and Solemn Majesty” written by Zhao Puchu, former president of the Buddhist Association of China. About half a kilometer behind the temple on a hill lies a pagoda forest (stone forest), where around ten stone stupas housing the ashes of eminent monks from various dynasties are scattered.

Hufang Township: Hufang Township is located in the southeastern part of Lichuan County, Jiangxi Province, about 20 kilometers from the county seat. It borders Lifen in Guangze County, Fujian Province to the east, Xiongzhen Town to the south, Heyuan Township to the west, and Xunkou Town to the north. It covers a total area of 83 square kilometers, with 100,000 mu of forest and 16,800 mu of arable land. The township administers one neighborhood committee, seven village committees, and 76 village groups, including one ethnic minority (She) group, with a total of 3,276 households and 10,653 residents.
