Gao'an Daguan Tower

Daguan Tower is located on the beautiful northern bank of the Jinjiang River in the city center, right in front of the former site of the municipal government compound, and is a provincial-level scenic spot.

The original construction date of Daguan Tower is unknown, and it was then called the Prefectural City Watchtower. It was rebuilt during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty and renamed as the Splendid View Tower on the Jinshui River. After being renovated in the 20th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty, Shijun, the prefect of Rui Prefecture, renamed it Daguan Tower, taking inspiration from the phrase “...the grand view of Yueyang Tower” in Fan Zhongyan’s “Record of Yueyang Tower.” For thousands of years, Daguan Tower has undergone multiple reconstructions and restorations. The most recent project began in September 2000 and was completed in January 2003, with a total construction area of over 3,200 square meters. The reconstructed Daguan Tower retains the original architectural style but has been expanded from three to four stories, now standing 21.99 meters tall and stretching 65 meters in length. The original brick-and-wood structure has been replaced with a reinforced concrete imitation wood structure. The entire tower is supported by 60 vermilion pillars, holding up a resplendent hip-and-gable roof and soaring eaves, adorned with vivid carvings of dragons and phoenixes, pine, bamboo and plum blossoms, as well as floral, bird, and plant patterns.
