Former Residence of Chairman Mao in Gao'an

The Former Residence of Chairman Mao in Gao'an is a classic red tourism attraction.

In late July 1930, Mao Zedong and - led the First Army Group of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army during their campaign from "Tingzhou to Changsha" and arrived at Gao'an County, where they stayed at the Hu Family Ancestral Hall for three days. After the liberation, the Gao'an County Government designated this site as the Former Residence of Chairman Mao. The residence is located on the eastern section of Jiefang Road in the urban area. In September 1942, it was burned down by the Japanese invaders during the war. In October 1978, to promote revolutionary spirit and display the deeds of revolutionary martyrs since the struggles in Gao'an, the "Former Residence of Chairman Mao" was rebuilt. In May 1983, it was announced as a county-level cultural relics protection unit by the People's Government of Gao'an County. Given that the historical surroundings of the "Former Residence of Chairman Mao" no longer existed and considering the construction needs of Fenghuang Lake Park in Gao'an City, in 2006, the Gao'an Municipal People's Government applied to the provincial cultural relics bureau for the off-site preservation of the Former Residence of Chairman Mao. In 2007, the Former Residence of Chairman Mao was relocated to Ruizhou Park in Gao'an City.
