Xiaozao Filial Piety Archway

The Xiaozao Filial Piety Archway is located 300 meters northeast of Xiaozao Village, Shangfu Town, Fengxin County. It is a Qing Dynasty structure built with granite, featuring four pillars, three gates, and five stories. It stands 8.68 meters tall and 6.27 meters wide. Both sides of the archway are carved with figures, animals, flowers, and birds, while the beams are inlaid with openwork lattice windows. The central gate features inscriptions from top to bottom, including “Imperial Edict” and “Filial Piety Archway,” among others. The horizontal plaque above the arch reads, “In the 25th year of the Daoguang reign [1845], this Filial Piety Archway was erected in honor of Lady Miu, wife of Confucian scholar Peng Zhixue of Fengxin County, Nanchang Prefecture.” A treasure vase sits atop the main ridge, and drum-shaped stones stand at the base of the pillars.
