The Xu Family Ancestral Halls for Men and Women

The Xu Family Ancestral Halls for Men and Women are located in Xiapuo Group, Luotang Village, Chitian Town, Fengxin County, and were built during the Qing Dynasty. This ancestral complex is quite rare, featuring a combined brick-and-timber structure with two connected halls: the larger one on the left is the Men’s Ancestral Hall, measuring 18.3 meters in width and 47.8 meters in depth; the smaller one on the right is the Women’s Ancestral Hall, which is both smaller and lower, measuring 11.1 meters in width and 47.8 meters in depth. The main beams and inscribed construction tablets within the halls clearly indicate a renovation date of the 27th year of the Daoguang reign (1847). The ancestral halls face south and are situated in front of a pond, with two ancient wells of the same period located nearby. The fact that both men’s and women’s ancestral halls were built simultaneously in the village, with such a unique design, holds significant reference value for the study of ancestral hall architectural styles of that era.
