Tomb of Cai Guozhen

The Tomb of Cai Guozhen is located 100 meters east of Shixi Village, Zaoxi Township, Fengxin County, and is a Ming Dynasty burial site.

The tomb faces west and features a stone stele lying horizontally in front, measuring 2.5 meters in length and 0.8 meters in width, inscribed with “Tomb of Lord Cai Jing, Grand Master of Splendid Happiness, Grand Guardian of the Heir Apparent, and Minister of Personnel of the Great Ming.” A pair of stone lions and qilin (mythical beasts) stand symmetrically in front of the tomb. Cai Guozhen (1527–1610), a native of Fengxin, passed the imperial examination in the 34th year of the Jiajing reign during the Ming Dynasty. He once served as an official in the Nanjing Ministry of Personnel, as Left and Right Regional Commissioner of Zhejiang, as Grand Guardian of the Heir Apparent, and eventually rose to the position of Minister of Personnel. He authored the 10-volume Collection from the Yiyun Hall. The tomb was renovated in 1982, covering an area of approximately 250 square meters, and is built in a terraced form. In the front stands a stone stele inscribed with “Tomb of the Heavenly Official,” and at the back is an engraved stone tablet reading “The Landscape Showcases Its Finest Beauty.” It serves as a valuable reference for studying the life of Cai Guozhen and burial customs of the time.
