Jingxian Pavilion

Jingxian Pavilion is located in Chaping Group, Zengjiaping Village, Zaoxi Township, Fengxin County. It is believed to have been built in the late Ming Dynasty and has undergone multiple renovations, leaving behind several stone tablets inscribed with restoration records. The inscriptions have faded over time, and the only clear date found on the pavilion is “Restored in the 6th Year of the Qianlong Reign.” The pavilion features a circular arched roof, faces south-north and opens east-west, and is constructed entirely from granite. It is 4 meters wide and 5.95 meters deep. The entrance is rectangular, measuring 1.6 meters wide and 2.6 meters high, and faces northwest. Above the door is an inscribed line of running script in Chinese characters reading “Jingxian Pavilion” (景贤亭), carved in intaglio on a granite slab. The southeast-facing side has the same structure, with another line of running script above the door reading “Xing Qie Zhi” (行且止, meaning “Proceed and then pause”), also carved in granite and largely well-preserved. This type of pavilion with an arched, vaulted roof is very rare among ancient Chinese architecture and holds significant historical value for the study of period construction techniques.

It lies 53 kilometers from the county seat and 118 kilometers from Nanchang, the provincial capital. Provincial Highway Sitang runs through the township. The total area of the township is 74.4 square kilometers, encompassing 9 administrative villages, with a population of 8,444, arable land covering 551.9 hectares, and forestland spanning 4,997 hectares.
