Jiuligang City Site

The Jiuligang City Site is located 100 meters northwest of Lijia Group, Beixi Village, Gan Zhou Town, Fengxin County. It is a settlement site dating from the Neolithic Age to the Shang and Zhou dynasties. The site covers an area of approximately 64,000 square meters, with cultural deposits about 1 meter thick. Remains of earthen city walls, over 4 meters high and with bases wider than 3 meters, can be found on the east, west, south, and north sides of the site. Collected artifacts include pottery fragments from the Neolithic Age, mostly made of sandy red pottery and sandy gray pottery, with identifiable shapes such as tripods, basins, and spinning whorls, as well as stone tools such as adzes and axes. Pottery fragments from the Shang and Zhou periods are mainly made of sandy gray pottery and stamped hard pottery, featuring decorations such as thundercloud patterns, sawtooth stacked patterns, zigzag patterns, net-like patterns, and straight incised lines. Identifiable vessel shapes include li-type vessels, dou (bean-shaped vessels), and li (tripod cauldrons). Stone tools include perforated items, saddle-shaped knives, and arrowheads. The city walls within the site are clearly distinguishable and relatively well-preserved, providing significant reference value for the study of the politics, economy, and culture of the period.
